Two Popular Agritourism Destinations

Agritourism means visiting working farms, farmers’ markets, farm museums, creameries, and community-supported agriculture institutions for education and enjoyment. This type of tourism gives farmers and produce sellers a way to diversify their income. Popular agritourism destinations include:

– Taiwan. Rural areas in this country have tea farms that show visitors how to grow, cultivate, and process one of the world’s leading beverages. Taiwan also has many cow ranches where tourists can test their milking and animal-handling skills. Some small-scale farmers in Taiwan offer accommodations so visitors can spend a few days learning farm operations.

– Italy. Known for its renaissance art and architecture, this country also is one of Europe’s leading agri-tourism spots. Italy’s Tuscany region, in particular, attracts tourists to vineyards to learn about winemaking. In Tuscany, visitors also can learn to make olive oil, cheese, and other food products.
